Academics

We at Vernon Elementary are committed to the academic achievement of our students. Our curriculum addresses the academic, social, and emotional needs of the whole child so that our students are well prepared for success in high school and beyond.

Library

Our school library is open before and after school for students to work on assignments, take tests, check out books, music, and games, read, or research. We invite you to take advantage of all the material we have available.

Primary students (kindergarten through 3rd graders) may check out one item per week. Intermediate students (4th through 8th graders) may check out two items per week. Check out periods last for one week.

Library Rules

  • Please speak quietly so you do not disturb other users.
  • Primary grades: If you remove a book from the shelf but decide you do not want it, place the book on the book cart. Do not put it back on the bookshelf.
  • Intermediate grades: When you remove a book from the shelf, replace it properly. Use a shelf marker to mark where you found your book. If you are unsure where it belongs, place it on the book cart.
  • Items do not renew automatically. When renewing items, bring it to the library on its original due date, and we will issue a new date.
  • Students are responsible for every item they check out of the library. We will assess fines for lost or damaged items. Please talk to the librarian if you have a mishap with any items you have checked out.

Field Trips

To extend learning opportunities and provide for hand-on experiences, our teachers occasionally take students on field trips. All field trips must serve an academic purpose and line up with school-wide goals. In order to participate, students must:

  • Receive parent permission (including instructions for medical attention and eating arrangements)
  • Have all classwork complete and maintain passing grades
  • Prove good citizenship
  • Demonstrate appropriate conduct
