Food Services

We recognize that nutrition impacts classroom performance, so we prepare our menus to provide both appeal and proper nutrition to our students. The variety of our menus ensures that our students get all of the necessary nutrients and other substances associated with good health, clear thinking, and a balanced diet. We teach the importance of nutritious meals while encouraging good eating habits. We also encourage parents to help their children to eat healthy, nutritious foods both at school and at home.

Breakfast

Did you know that breakfast increases your child’s brain power? Our bodies convert breakfast food into energy for use by our brain. When children skip breakfast, they must rely on the energy from their last meal to fuel their brain. Without breakfast, kids typically have a gap of twelve hours or more between dinner and lunch! Our school breakfast ensures your child starts the school day well nourished and ready to learn. Please ensure your child arrives at school in time to eat breakfast.

Nutritional Excellence

Vernon Elementary is a part of the Community Eligibility National School Lunch and Breakfast Program. This program provides all students at Vernon with healthy breakfasts and lunches at no charge to our families. You don’t even have to fill out an application.

All our meals are nutritionally balanced and provide at least one-third of a child’s Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) of calories, protein, vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium, and iron at lunch, and one-fourth of the RDA for these nutrients at breakfast.
